Port Severn Wetlands expanded with 7-acre land donation

We are pleased to announce the permanent protection of a seven-acre property in Port Severn through the generous donation of Paul and Diane Vollick, made in memory of Donald and Hazel Galbraith. This meaningful gift ensures that an ecologically significant landscape will be protected forever, creating a lasting legacy for both the family and the natural environment.

This new land donation extends the wetland area protected by our Port Severn Wetlands property, now covering more of the rich expanse of wetlands between Highway 400 and Potato Island.

This property holds exceptional conservation value. It includes a Provincially Significant Wetland, provides important habitat for several species at risk, and contributes to the health and resilience of the surrounding ecosystem. By protecting this property, the Georgian Bay Land Trust is expanding its existing network of conserved lands in Port Severn, strengthening habitat connectivity along the eastern shoreline of Georgian Bay.

The protection of this property reflects the profound impact that private landowners can have on conservation. Through the generosity of the company created by Donald and Hazel this important natural area will continue to support biodiversity, improve ecosystem health, and provide ecological benefits for generations to come.
