Big Day 2026

It’s nearly time for our fifth-annual fundraising Big Day! Aaron Rusak, the Georgian Bay Land Trust’s Conservation Director and an avid birder, will lead a small group of Land Trust staff and volunteers in an epic quest to see as many birds as possible in 24 hours. We'll be fundraising along the way to support the Land Trust's bird research and habitat conservation work.

What is a Big Day? A “Big Day” is an attempt by birdwatchers to spot as many bird species as possible within a single 24-hour period. Aaron and team will begin their quest around 1 am on May 16th and finish late in the evening that same day. The team’s all-time record was set in 2024, with 133 species seen or heard over the course of the day.

Curious about what a Big Day entails? Read our accounts of 2022, 2023, and 2025.

You can support Aaron and team’s efforts, and help protect the habitats that these birds depend on, by pledging to donate to the Georgian Bay Land Trust for every species seen.
