Protecting What Matters: Conservation Options for Landowners
Presented by Jenn LeMesurier, Land Securement Coordinator, Georgian Bay Land Trust
This talk will be presented on Zoom - register here to attend.
This webinar will explore land conservation opportunities available through partnership with Georgian Bay Land Trust. Participants will learn about the various tools used to protect ecologically significant lands - such as conservation easements and land donations - and how these options can help achieve long-term stewardship goals on Georgian Bay.
The session will also introduce Canada’s Ecological Gifts Program, administered by Environment and Climate Change Canada. This federal program provides significant tax benefits to landowners who donate ecologically sensitive land or conservation easements to qualified recipients, ensuring these lands are protected in perpetuity. Participants will gain an overview of eligibility criteria, the certification process, and the potential financial advantages of making an ecological gift.
The webinar will outline the process of working with a land trust - from initial conversations through to permanent protection - and provide an opportunity to ask questions about conservation options, tax considerations, and next steps. Ideal for landowners, families, and community members interested in leaving a lasting conservation legacy.
