// CARLING NATURE CORRIDOR - PARCEL 1

Help build a protected habitat corridor in Carling Township

We are excited to bring the Georgian Bay Corridor Project to Carling Township, with an opportunity to protect the first parcel of the Carling Nature Corridor.

What is the Carling Nature Corridor?

Georgian Bay’s plants and animals need space and protected migratory corridors in order to survive. The Georgian Bay Land Trust’s Corridor Project is an ambitious plan to preserve our region’s ecological connectivity by creating a protected habitat corridor along the eastern shore of Georgian Bay. Parts of the Corridor have already been completed to the south and are in progress to the north.

In Carling, the Corridor will be constructed through a network of strategically protected parcels running north to south through the township, connecting to existing protected lands. The exact route of the Corridor will be determined by land availability over the course of the project.

What is Parcel 1?

This is our first opportunity to purchase land in Carling Township that will contribute to the creation of the Carling Nature Corridor.

This land is a 200-acre parcel in north Carling, containing a variety of forest and wetland habitats known to be home to bear, moose, and deer. Its location adjacent to the Upper Shebeshekong Wetlands will allow us to extend the habitat range available to the many at-risk species who rely on this conservation reserve, and its proximity to Shawanaga First Nation will allow for collaborative stewardship efforts.

The location of this property helps to fill in a gap between two portions of the Upper Shebeshekong Wetlands Conservation Reserve, and its proximity to Shawanaga First Nation will strengthen protected land connectivity and stewardship in the immediate area.

You can help:

  • Protect 200 acres of forest and wetlands, home to bear, moose, deer, and multiple species at risk

  • Begin the creation of the Carling Nature Corridor, a crucial link in the Georgian Bay Corridor Project
