Caring for the Land
GBLT protects over 7,500 acres of wilderness lands.
GBLT properties, partner properties, and other natural areas are located on both private and public land. They includes islands, wetlands and mainland properties. Many of these properties harbour vegetation and species that have regional, provincial and global significance. All our properties are protected to conserve the natural and cultural character of the properties and to provide the public with the opportunity to appreciate Georgian Bay’s natural beauty.
GBLT property stewards are volunteers. They help make sure that protected properties are used only in ways which will not harm the area’s environment. Camping and fires are forbidden. Sensitive nesting or spawning areas are isolated and protected. Each of the protected properties is inventoried and evaluated annually to track any environmental changes or trends.
