Property Info

Despite its name, Little McCoy is a large (14 hectares) island that is currently leased by the Georgian Bay Land Trust. This island is part of a string of outlying islands in the Pointe au Baril area, with Little McCoy being the furthest north of the island chain. Despite their location and exposure to extreme wind and wave activity, Little McCoy and the other islands in the chain support a variety of flora and fauna. A diversity of communities are found scattered in pockets of soil throughout the island. Most notable is the extensive Leatherleaf bog community that stretches along a large depression that runs through the centre of the island. Extensive sheltered shoreline that collects sandy material, supports a diversity of species including the showy Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis).
