"Our family gave a conservation lease to GBLT because the unspoiled Bay is deep in our hearts. We want to support the GBLT and preserve the island in its natural state."

Rocks of Georgian Bay Poster Launched!
After much discussion and most likely some restless nights, our jurors chose 25 photographs from our Rocks of Georgian Bay photo contest to be included on this year’s poster, the second in a series of posters celebrating the beauty of eastern Georgian Bay and the North Channel.

The poster portrays the many faces of the rocks, from orange lichen-covered crags to smooth whale’s backs plunging into the water, each one a snippet of the Bay’s beauty. The splendour of the rocks is just one of the many reasons to protect this incredible natural wonder, a cause the GBLT is forwarding through conservation, promotion and education. Our “Unique Trees of Georgian Bay” poster has raised over $10,000 that directly supports education within our community about the delicate nature of Georgian Bay so they can assist us in caring for these unique properties. We hope this poster will continue to be purchased by those who love the Bay so we may together preserve this place for our families.

Giant’s Tomb Island
GBLT is engaging in an effort to raise 225,000 dollars for the purchase of the northeastern portion of Giant’s Tomb Island in Georgian Bay. The GBLT is appealing to the public to help raise the funds to protect this property. The privately owned portion of Giant’s Tomb Island is of interest to the GBLT because of its unique ecological and historical importance. It has been designated as an Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI) by the provincial Government of Ontario and has been assessed to have provincially significant wetland.

The fundraising effort is expected to continue into 2009. To find out how you can support this important project contact the GBLT at 416-440-1519.

GBLT Art Auction 2008
On Tuesday November 25th, 220 people gathered for the Bayscapes Art Auction and Sale. It proved to be a delightful evening, full of celebration and support for the efforts of the Land Trust. Eighty-three pieces of art were on sale, all of which had been generously donated by Georgian Bay artists. The evening was a great success raising over $50 000. These funds will contribute to our efforts in protecting special places on the Bay and North Channel.
A special thank you to all of those involved in making this event a success. We look forward to seeing you next year at the Bayscapes Photography Auction.
