"Because I had been summering in Pointe au Baril all my life and had picnicked on this island many times, I couldn't bear to see further development encroaching among the islands. More cottages, boats and docks would lead to loss of privacy and freedom of picnicking. It was important for me and my family that we preserve this island from development and we feel strongly that the Georgian Bay land Trust is doing this extremely important work for all of us."

How does the Land Trust work?
As a registered charity, the Trust receives donations of land, money and conservation easements for which tax receipts may be issued.

Following Trust acceptance, tasteful markers may be placed on the property and its use is monitored by our representative or supervised by agreement with established area associations.

Financial contributions to the Trust help to:

  • purchase significant properties
  • maintain properties and pay insurance
  • provide education about environmental issues.

Advice on tax and/or estate planning and property evaluation related to donations to the Trust is available by contacting any member of the Board of Directors.

Within the volunteer membership of the Board of Directors of the Trust are experts who can advise you on how to take advantage of the opportunities inherent in donating to the Trust - whether property or cash or shares.

In all cases, properties are examined by the Trust's Property Review Committee, and only suitable uses - as mutually agreed by the donor, the community and the Trust - are recommended.
