What makes a good Steward
"As Henry David Thoreau said, "The finest qualities of our nature, like the bloom on fruits, can be preserved only by the most delicate handling." I would like to thank the Georgian Bay Land Trust for providing me the opportunity to experience the tangible work that is being done to preserve such an important landscape. It is comforting to know that these islands will remain tied to the wilderness for generations to come. I was able to begin a new series of work based on the Canadian shield and hope to return in the future to continue."
What makes a good Steward
To be a GBLT Steward, you don't have to be an expert in environmental science or have experience in anything other than loving Georgian Bay.
Usually, you'll know of or find out a about a property close to you and have a desire to make sure it stays environmentally healthy for future generations.
You should be familiar with (and obviously supportive of!) the mission and objectives of the Georgian Bay Land Trust.
It is great if you have a strong connection to the local community - or one of the 'communities' of Georgian Bay that includes permanent residents, first nations communities, boaters, fishers or other frequent visitors.
If you do have an understanding of natural heritage and environmental features then that is going to help, especially for inventories and other assessments. But if you don't have expertise we've got lots of people to help you.
The Georgian Bay Land Trust seeks to preserve the unique archipelago and the adjacent water bodies which lie along the eastern shore and North Channel of Georgian Bay that are of ecological, geological and historical importance, and to promote the appreciation of this special area.
