How we care for your property

How the GBLT cares for your land

Over the past few years the GBLT has formalized its Stewardship Program to assure that every property is monitored and preserved in a consistent way.

The number one priority is protecting the natural and cultural values that define each property. Use of GBLT’s properties is only permitted if that use currently exists and does not have any negative impact on the natural and cultural features. If use is permitted, it is limited to low-impact, non-consumptive activities like picnicking and swimming, and GBLT regularly reviews permitted and prohibited uses to determine if changes should be made.

For every property a Property Management Plan is developed to guide stewarding activites. Then a team of stewards is put together. They are given manuals, instructions, monitoring forms to be completed and educational materials for anyone who does visit the property.

These handouts are created for each property outlining the permitted and prohibited uses and other materials available include “GBLT’s 7 Ways to Save the Bay” (following the Leave No Trace principles) and a variety of rare and invasive fact sheets.
